Focus: language

It is the content of your site that will make your visitor want to stay, read your text, buy something from you - and, ideally, come back again. It is also the words on your site that will help the visitor find you in the first place, via search engines. So there are a few essential things to consider:

  • check your spelling and grammar. Incorrect spellings can seem unprofessional and good grammar makes your meaning clearer.
  • make the copy quick and easy to read - people scan text on the screen, they don't read it thoroughly
  • use the words that people looking for your site are likely to type into the search engine to find you.
  • use white space to make the text easier on the eye - ideally, use space between the paragraphs
  • keep the content short, because users don't like to scroll
  • make sure key items are near the top. If people don't scroll, they may never see some of you content.
  • use legible colour-combinations and fonts
  • check your spelling and grammar again. Proofread everything at least twice - and once backwards.

We are experienced at subediting websites. If we are building your site, we'll do this as part of the service, but if you have built your own site, and just want someone to check it for you - we can do that too.
