Focus: making money from your site
Some websites sell products or services directly to the customer. If selling products, they need an online store in which to display their goods, and a means of accepting payment. Selling services doesn't need online payment processing, but the online store is the website itself, and so this will need to reflect the services being marketed.
Others make money by displaying adverts on their site, for which they are paid depending on the number of times the advert is read, or clicked on. People find pop-ups annoying, and often use software to turn them off, but adverts on the page seem to be more acceptable. These could be small colour adverts in a corner, or a column of Google adverts down the side.
Some make money through affiliate programs, in which they sell or advertise products, and are paid commission based on the sales they generate. It would be possible to sign up to individual retailers, but is often simpler to have someone else manage this for you - although they will take a cut of the profits for their efforts.
